Process of Filing for Divorce

The general steps of filing for divorce include:

  1. Consider all laws and rules applicable to the family law matter

  2. Collect all supporting documents

  3. Complete all of the necessary forms that can be found at: https://www.yukoncourts.ca/en/supreme-court/rules-forms

  4. Make copies of all of the forms and documents

  5. Have all of your financial statements and affidavits notarized

  6. File your forms with the Supreme Court Registry

  7. Arrange to have the forms that you filed served to the other party

  8. Prepare and file an Affidavit of Service

  9. Wait for a response from the other party, if there is no response filed, you may jump ahead and request a divorce order

  10. Prepare responding affidavits, if required

  11. Request a divorce order

  12. Request a certificate of divorce
