Sick Leave
Employers cannot fire or lay off employees just because they are absent due to illness or injury, as long as the absence doesn't exceed the maximum amount of sick days.
The employee's entitlement is one day without pay for every month they have worked for the employer, minus the number of days they have already been absent due to illness or injury, up to a maximum of 12 days.
The employer can ask for a certificate from a qualified medical or nurse practitioner to prove the employee's entitlement.
