Subletting/Assignment
In order for a tenant to sublet or assign a rental unit, a tenant must obtain written consent from the landlord before making such arrangements.
The landlord cannot unreasonably withhold their consent, but a public housing authority landlord may refuse for any reason.
The tenant remains liable for any responsibilities they agreed to in the tenancy agreement, even after assigning or subletting their unit.
Landlords cannot charge tenants for considering or granting permission for an assignment or sublease unless regulations allow for it.
