Minimum wage
An employer must pay their employee at least the minimum wage for every hour or part of an hour worked, as well as a minimum sum when the employee reports for duty.
If the employer pays their employee on any basis other than by the hour, they must still pay an amount equal to the minimum wage multiplied by the number of hours worked or at the employer's disposal.
certain types of payment, such as vacation pay or overtime pay, cannot be included in this calculation
As of October 1, 2023, the minimum wage will be $14.00
Minimum hours
The minimum for an employee who is called into work is paid for 3 hours even if it is shorter.
duty pay applies on holidays except it is whichever is more between holiday pay and reporting for duty pay
With the exceptions of:
students working within the school term
school bus drivers
noon hour supervisors employed by a school board
reporting for duty and layoff or termination:
if an employee is required to report to work to receive their layoff or term notice, that employee is entitled to reporting for duty pay
