Interpersonal Violence Leave

If an employee is a victim of interpersonal violence (such as domestic violence) or sexual violence, they are entitled to take up to 10 days of leave within a year.

The employee can take this leave all at once or spread the leave out over time.

The reasons for taking the leave could include:

  • seeking medical attention,

  • obtaining counselling,

  • relocating, or

  • seeking legal assistance.

The employer must keep the employee's reasons for taking the leave confidential.

An employee is entitled to 5 paid days of leave and 5 unpaid days per year.

The employer may ask the employee for proof of the circumstances of the leave.
