An employee can take up to 28 weeks of leave from work to care for or support a family member who has a serious medical condition and is at risk of dying within 26 weeks.

An employee can only take one compassionate care leave within a year.

The leave will end if:

• the employee stops providing care,

• if the 28 weeks are up, or

• if the family member passes away.
