Rent Increase
12-Month rule
Landlord cannot impose a rent increase for at least 12 months after the effective date of the last rent increase. If a landlord increases the rent payable, the tenant must receive written notice of the increase.
Notice
The notice must be given to the tenant in the approved form, signed by the landlord, state the effective date of the increase, the amount of the increase, and the amount of rent payable when the increase becomes effective.
Option to terminate
A tenant can treat a rent increase notice as a notice of termination if they wish, and if the tenant ends the tenancy agreement, the landlord must give a prospective tenant a copy of the notice, with the name of the tenant removed, before the parties agree to a tenancy agreement.
