Standard Hours

The standard number of hours of work that an employer may require an employee to work during a week is 48 hours. 

There are certain exemptions to these standard hours including the following industries:

  • Construction, maintenance, traffic control and snow removal of highways, roads and streets have the standard hours of 55 hours per week

  • The seafood storage industry has standard hours of 55 hours per week

  • In the Trucking industry the standard hours are 55 hours per week

  • In the healthcare industry, the standard hours are 96 hours in a two-week period. After the 96 hours overtime begins.
