Rest Periods
An employer must give each employee an unpaid rest period of at least 24 consecutive hours in every period of 7 days, and that rest period should include Sunday whenever possible.
Eating periods
An employer must provide an unpaid rest or eating period of at least 30 minutes for each employee, at intervals that ensure no employee works longer than 5 consecutive hours without a break.
Note: An employer cannot force an employee to stay at work during an unpaid rest or eating period.
Retail worker on Sunday
An employee who works for a retail business to which the Retail Business Holidays Act applies can refuse to work on Sundays if they give the employer verbal or written notice of refusal at least 7 days before the Sunday(s) in question. The employer cannot penalize or discriminate against the employee for refusing to work.
