Bereavement and Court Leave

Bereavement Leave:

  • If an employee has a family member who died, they can take time off work to attend their funeral or memorial service.

  • This time off is not paid and can last up to three days if the funeral is in the same community, or up to seven days if it's in another community.

Court Leave:

  • If an employee receives a summons to attend court as a witness or to serve on a jury, they can take time off work to fulfill their legal duties.

  • This time off is not paid and lasts for as long as the employee is required to perform their duties in court.

  • If the employee receives payment for serving on the jury or as a witness, they must reimburse their employer for that amount (excluding travel, meals, and accommodation expenses) if they received paid court leave.
