When spouse and children
If the deceased has a spouse and one child, the spouse will inherit half of the estate.
If the deceased has a spouse and multiple children, the spouse will inherit one-third of the estate.
If one of the deceased's children has passed away but has living children (the deceased's grandchildren), the spouse will inherit the same share of the estate as if that child were alive.
When there are multiple children receiving shares, the children receive equal shares of the estate.
No children
When there is a spouse and no children, the entire estate shall go to the spouse.
No spouse or children
When there are no surviving spouses or children, the estate shall go to the parents of the deceased. If one of the parents is deceased, then the entire estate shall go to the surviving parent.
No spouse, children, or parents
When there are no surviving spouses, children, or parents, the estate shall go to the siblings of the deceased in equal shares.
When there are no surviving siblings, the estate shall go to the nieces and nephews of the deceased in equal shares.
Next-of-Kin
When there is no spouse, children, parents, siblings, nephew or niece, the estate shall go to the next-of-kin of equal shares to those of an equal degree of relation.
