Process of Executing a Will

Generally speaking, to execute a will in Newfoundland and Labrador, an executor shall:

  1. Gather all necessary documents.(ex. Land Title Documents, Death certificates, Bank Statements, etc.)

  2. Record all Assets (everything the deceased owned) and Liabilities (everything that the deceased owed) of the estate.

  3. Apply for probate (if applicable).

  4. Pay all applicable taxes

  5. Paying all creditors or liabilities.

  6. Distributing assets to beneficiaries listed in the will
