Public Holidays

Employees are entitled to a day off in addition to their annual vacation for general holidays, and they are eligible for holiday pay unless they are absent from work without their employer's consent.

The amount of holiday pay must be at least the employee's wage for regular hours of work on a normal workday in the pay period in which the holiday occurs.

If an employee's wage for regular hours of work cannot be determined, their holiday pay is 5% of their total wages for the four-week period before the holiday.

If an employee works on a general holiday, they are entitled to be paid overtime wages and holiday pay, unless they work in certain businesses where the employer may give them a day off instead.

If the general holiday falls on a day that is not a normal workday for the employee, the employer must give the employee a day off with holiday pay on a normal workday.

If an employee's employment is terminated before their day off is taken, the employer must pay them holiday pay along with any other wages due.
