Days of Rest

Employers must ensure that their employees have at least one rest period of 24 consecutive hours each week unless exempted by the director.

Employers may apply to the director for exemption from this requirement if they meet certain criteria, such as undue hardship or severe loss.

Employers and the bargaining agent for their employees may also jointly apply for an exemption.

If an employee works on a day they would otherwise be entitled to as a day of rest, they are entitled to a day off without pay instead.

The director may set conditions and vary or revoke exemption orders.
