Executing a Will

Generally speaking, to execute a will in Alberta, an executor shall:

  1. Gather all necessary documents.(ex. Land Title Documents, Death certificates, Bank Statements, etc.)

  2. Record all Assets (everything the deceased owned) and Liabilities (everything that the deceased owed) of the estate.

  3. Apply for probate (if applicable).

  4. Obtain a Clearance Certificate from the CRA

  5. Paying all creditors or liabilities.

  6. Distributing assets to beneficiaries listed in the will

Please note: There may be additional steps depending on the size and complexity of the estate.
